The Eastern Market metro stop derives its name from Eastern Market (located across the street) which has been in existence since 1873 - one of DC's original "grocery stores." It is a local, Capitol Hill treasure! Inside, on weekdays, you will find butchers, fishmongers, cheese sellers, a bakery, and fresh fruit and vegetables. On the weekends, the market welcomes all kinds of artists and artisans as well as additional fresh fruit, vegetable, and flower vendors - not to mention all the "treasures" of a flea market. |
